Photography 101 For The Holiday Season
Snapping pictures of your loved ones is easier than you might think. Keeping a few tips in mind can make a big difference in the images you create.
Even after almost eight years of working as a photographer at the Opelika-Auburn News, Cliff Williams still has to remind himself of a few key practices such as getting down at the level of his subject, if needed, and paying attention to what's behind his subjects.
"You don't want a poinsettia, fern or Christmas tree coming out of the top of a head," Williams said....
Comments: Types we all should pay attention too....no matter how good we are with that camera! DM

Wright Camera Club at CACCA 12-08
The Wright Camera Club had an opportunity as a group to be recognized by the Chicago Area Camera Club Association which has most Chicago area clubs as members. Many of these camera clubs have websites that will allow you to log on and take a look at what they offer. But of course think Wright Camera Club has not only the best website but the best of everything.
WCC members wore their new WCC T-shirts made up by Mark Southard (thanks Mark) and we all looked pretty spiffy!!

Counterfeit Canon lithium-ion batteries and chargers
It has been confirmed that counterfeit Canon lithium-ion batteries and chargers for Canon digital cameras and digital video camcorders are in circulation. In addition, it has been reported that counterfeit batteries have been considered the cause of some battery ruptures.
In many cases, counterfeit batteries and chargers are not equipped with protective devices required to meet international quality standards. Therefore, when these batteries or chargers are used or charged, they can cause abnormal heat or leakage, ignition, rupture and other malfunctions in the batteries, chargers, and digital cameras and video camcorders. There is concern that, in the worst case, not only could digital cameras and digital video camcorders be damaged, but fire, burns, blindness and other severe accidents could occur. Thus, to ensure customer safety, we urge our customers not to use counterfeit devices.
Please be advised that Canon is not responsible, and will not be liable, for any malfunctions, damages or injuries caused by non-Canon genuine lithium-ion batteries and/or battery chargers including, without limitation, counterfeit devices.
Recently, both in Japan and overseas, counterfeits of Canon's genuine lithium-ion battery packs and chargers have been frequently offered for sale on the Internet. Accordingly, please use caution when purchasing Canon lithium-ion battery packs and chargers on the Internet to ensure that they are genuine Canon brand.
Canon's genuine lithium-ion batteries have security labels on their packaging that identify them as genuine Canon products. When purchasing battery packs, please refer to this information. (See the following image for the labels.)

Washington Park Camera Club Hands On Workshop
Tuesday August 12 at 7:00 PM. See the CACCA website for location of the club meeting. The Club meeting place is a very easy location to get to.
This will be a hands-on workshop, in which all participants go through the steps involved in conducting a DPI competition. Participants are to bring their own laptop, if they have one.
The workshop will be conducted using the software "Club Viewer" which runs on PC's or the latest MAC's that can run both PC and MAC software. Club Viewer is the software which will be used by the DPI committee to run all inter-club DPI competitions beginning in October.
It is recommended that you call or e-mail President Kathleen Sims (630-699-3780) if you and others from your club will be attending. The club needs to know for set-up table space. Kathleen's e-mail is: kathleensims@msn.com
A second workshop will be held in Lake Forest on September 15 for the North and a third workshop is scheduled at the Salt Creek Club in Countryside for October 15.

Digital Projected Images Workshop 9/15/08
This hands on workshop on Digital Projected Images (DPI) will be held at Lake Forest College on Conducting a Digital Projected Image Competition.
The workshop will be at Lake Forest College, 555 N. Sheridan Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045. It will be held in the Johnson Science Center, Room 100, starting at 7:00 PM. Nobody should expect to find a sign on Sheridan Road displaying the street number, 555. The street numbers numbers are not displayed at the college. However, the main entrance to Lake Forest College is at the intersection of N. Sheridan Road and College Road. I have put fairly detailed instructions about how to get to the college and to the Johnson Science Center on the Web at:
http://www.lakeforest.edu/~donnally/directions .
A good map of Lake Forest College campus can be found at:
http://www.lakeforest.edu/about/community/map.asp .
On this map, the place we will have the workshop is number 10.
Bailey Donnally
This will be a hands-on workshop, in which all participants go through the steps involved in conducting a DPI competition. Participants are to bring their own laptop, if they have one. But if anyone doesn't have a portable computer or prefers not to bring it, Bailey can provide a desktop for you and members of your club to use. Bailey will need to know in advance if someone wants to take advantage of this offer because he will need to install the appropriate software on the computers, and profile it in advance. Contact Bailey Donnally at: bdonnally@sbcglobal.net in advance if you will need to use one of the college computers.
It is also recommended that you give Bailey and e-mail that you and how many others from your club are coming for a set-up chair count.
The workshop will be conducted using the software "Club Viewer" which runs on PC's or the latest MAC's that can run both PC and MAC software. Club Viewer is the software which will be used by the DPI committee to run all inter-club DPI competitions beginning in October.

Fun Things to Do with Your Photographs: Dumpr
Thanks Dominick!
Fun with stereographic photography
Comment: I'm not sure if any of the members of the Wright Camera Club do stereo-photography....but here's an explanation that's pretty simple to follow....as an optometrist who specialized in binocular vision I find this topic interesting. The author of this website notes that 10-15% of the population won't see the stereo affect...that's probably because they have some eye coordingation problems....if the eyes do not work well together, stereopsis (AKA 3D vision) is the first to suffer. Take a look and let me know if you've tried producing any stereo photos and how it worked out! Dominick Maino
